Jacksonville Firefighters take to the Streets for Jerry’s Kids, Set New Collection Record
JACKSONVILLE- Florida/Georgia weekend in Jacksonville brings thousands of football fans to town for one of the biggest games in college football. It also marks the weekend where Jacksonville Firefighters take to the streets to join in the fight against neuromuscular diseases.
Starting October 26th and running through the 28th, Jacksonville Firefighters took their positions at local intersections throughout Jacksonville during their annual “Fill the Boot” drive to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, an organization dedicated to battling neuromuscular diseases.
2006 proved to be a record year for The Jacksonville Firefighters as they raised a record $113,694.18 for Jerry’s kids, eclipsing their previous record of $85,000 in 2005. 2006 will also be a record year in total donations, as Jacksonville will present MDA a check worth over $135,000.
Money from the boot drive, and many like it across the nation, will go to battle over 40 neuromuscular diseases combated by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The money raised will go towards the purchase of wheelchairs, leg braces, flu shots, and scientific research.
The Jacksonville Firefighters would like to thank the citizens of Jacksonville for their support during the 2006 MDA campaign.
