Jacksonville Firefighters Assist with Construction of Women and Children’s Homeless Shelter

Jacksonville Firefighters were on hand July 8th to lend a hand with the construction of a new shelter for homeless women and children. The event, called “Raise the Roof”, was a barn raising event sponsored by the Trinity Rescue Mission and the Northeast Florida Builder’s Association.
The new shelter, located at the intersection of Beaver and Jefferson Streets in downtown Jacksonville, is a 100 bed facility specifically for women and children who are homeless. The new shelter will be available to homeless women and children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Each day the Shelter will provide hot meals, clean clothing, and safe lodging.
Firefighters arrived early on Friday and quickly went to work. They were assisted by members of the Skyetec Company and City Council members Daniel Davis and Reggie Fullwood. Firefighters were assigned to the north side of the building where they hung plywood. Other firefighters assisted with measuring, cutting, and hauling wood to other parts of the facility.
